Tragic Death in Oklahoma County Jail: Vincent Riggie Found Unresponsive, Investigation Underway
On January 18, 2025, Vincent Riggie, a 32-year-old inmate at the Oklahoma County Detention Center, was found unresponsive during routine checks around 7 p.m. Jail officials immediately attempted life-saving measures, and EMSA and OKC Fire responded, but Riggie was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death remains under investigation by the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s office, with the sheriff’s office suggesting it may be due to natural causes and no signs of foul play reported so far.
Riggie had been booked into the jail on January 15, 2025, on assault and battery charges, marking his death as the first inmate fatality at the facility in 2025, after three deaths in 2024 from various causes like heart attacks and overdoses. His family launched a GoFundMe for funeral costs, and a memorial service was held on January 25, 2025. This incident has reignited concerns about inmate safety and jail conditions, with the community awaiting further investigative findings.
