Fatal Car Crash on I-290 in Hillside Claims Life of Andy Orozco

On March 24, 2025, a fatal car crash occurred on Interstate 290 near Wolf Road in Hillside, Illinois, resulting in the death of Andy Orozco, a 61-year-old resident of Chicago. The incident was caused by a wrong-way driver, Saul Alba, 42, of Carpentersville, who was operating a black Chevrolet truck in the eastbound lanes while traveling westbound. Alba’s vehicle collided head-on with Orozco’s 2006 silver Mitsubishi Lancer, which was traveling in the correct direction. Following the initial collision, Alba’s truck struck two additional vehicles: a 2024 white Jeep Wagoneer and a 1987 red Mazda RX7, the latter of which subsequently crashed into a concrete barrier.

Andy Orozco was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead due to multiple blunt force injuries. Saul Alba sustained life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized, while the driver of the Jeep Wagoneer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated and released. The driver of the Mazda RX7 escaped injury. Alba has been charged with multiple felony counts, including Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol Involving Death, reflecting the severity of the incident and its legal consequences.
