Tragic Crash in Kent Claims Life of Jose Ortiz, Family Seeks Justice

On March 28, 2025, a heartbreaking tragedy struck Kent, Washington, when Jose Ortiz lost his life in a crash involving a suspected drunk driver. The incident occurred at the intersection of 94th Avenue South and South 240th Street as Jose and his wife were returning home from a church event, according to Kent Police. The driver of the second vehicle, a 40-year-old woman, was arrested for DUI and is currently under investigation for vehicular homicide. Jose’s wife suffered serious injuries, including a broken clavicle and ribs, and was hospitalized, while Jose tragically passed away at the scene. Described by his niece, Brenda Ortiz, as a man of deep faith, love, and humility, Jose’s loss has left an indelible mark on his family and community.

The Ortiz family is now grappling with profound grief while seeking justice for Jose. Brenda Ortiz shared a cherished memory of her uncle from just two weeks prior, when he spoke to her about life’s purpose, saying, “Our lives aren’t ours to take, they’re God’s, when our mission here is done, he’ll call us home.” As they mourn, the family has extended a message of hope to the suspected driver, praying she learns from this tragedy that has forever altered their lives.
