Three Highway Workers Killed in West Springfield Work Zone Crash
On March 28, 2025, at approximately 12:45 a.m., a fatal accident occurred in a work zone on Interstate 91 North, Exit 10A, in West Springfield, Massachusetts. Three highway workers, identified as Igor Costa, 26, of Marlborough; Ryan Almeida, 48, of Brockton; and Raul Bohoquez, 57, of Brockton, were struck and killed by an SUV driven by Bilal Griffith, 29, of West Springfield. The workers were employed by Premier Fence and were repairing guardrails at the time of the incident.
Following the collision, Griffith fled the scene but was later apprehended by authorities. He has been charged with three counts of manslaughter and one count of leaving the scene of personal injury or death. Griffith was arraigned and is being held on $1 million bail, with a court date scheduled for April 2. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has confirmed that the incident did not occur at one of their worksites and did not involve their staff. The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Massachusetts State Police.
